Cara Cassino is a highly experienced physician executive who believes in keeping the patient in full view at all times. This guiding principle has underpinned her successful career in Pharmaceutical R&D, with 25+ successful Regulatory approvals for novel drugs which have improved the lives of patients in the US and globally. This has also been integral to her teams’ successes in navigating challenging business decisions and assessing new drug candidates and partnerships. Dr. Cassino is a widely respected, inspirational leader whose groups have made long lasting contributions to how new drugs are developed. She is regarded as a person of integrity and a credible voice in business decision making.As Founder and President of Stony Point Life Sciences, Dr. Cassino advises clients ranging from Pharmaceutical giants to micro-cap Biotechs and government agencies. Prior to this, Dr. Cassino served as Chief Medical Officer and Executive Vice President of ContraFect Corporation for 7 years and was a member of the Office of the CEO. During this time, she transformed ContraFect from a research start up to a full R&D organization and championed the advancement of their lead asset from Phase 1 into Phase 3, with FDA Fast Track and Breakthrough Therapy designations and an $86.8M BARDA award.Previously, Dr. Cassino served as Senior Vice President at Forest Laboratories, Inc. (now Abbvie), where she oversaw Global Clinical Development across 4 therapeutic areas, with a portfolio of 35 compounds. She was also centrally involved in the $2.9 billion acquisition of Aptalis and the $1.1 billion acquisition of Furiex Pharmaceuticals. Prior to this, Dr. Cassino held senior positions at Pfizer, including Group VP for Pulmonary Vascular Disease and Rare Diseases and was Executive Director of the US Respiratory franchise at Boehringer-Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals. Dr. Cassino also served as Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine in of the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at New York University (NYU) School of Medicine .Dr. Cassino received a B.A., summa cum laude, in Chemistry and Fine Arts from NYU where she was elected to Phi Beta Kappa, followed by an M.D. from NYU School of Medicine. Dr. Cassino completed her internship and residency in Internal Medicine at NYU/Bellevue Hospital and a fellowship in Pulmonary/Critical Care Medicine at NYU and Mount Sinai Medical Center. Dr. Cassino is Board Certified in both Internal Medicine and Pulmonary Medicine.Full CV available on request
